If you can get tickets you must go and see The Changeling at the Barbican. Middleton and Rowley's gory, dense and dark Jacobean tragedy is done brilliantly by Cheek by Jowl. Layers of meaning are unravelled from the text, the subplot turned from weakness to excellent counterpoint and the play refracted into an exploration of the close, overlapping relationship between fools and madmen, admiration and obsession, love and lust, men and women.

Will Keen and Olivia Williams are worthy of high praise in the lead roles although the whole cast is superb. Some of Declan and Nick's longstanding critics trot out their old complaints about the company's trademark direction and set design but this is just windy axe-grinding. To see Cheek by Jowl back from their eight-year hiatus and hitting their old stride re-inventing the classics wonderfully is fantastic.

Girlfriend has been on at me to go to this, you've given me the shove needed to book tickets. I'll be there on Saturday night (missing Argentina v Ivory Coast for it!)
